Physical Therapy
Physical therapists serve the orthopedic, neurological and medical needs of adults and children alike. Each therapist assists with the general needs of patients, but have also developed programs in industrial rehabilitation including customized education programs, pre-work screens, and functional capacity evaluations affiliated with the KEY and Isernhagen work systems.
Occupational Therapy
Occupational therapy is a specialty that helps people regain, develop, and build skills that are important for independent functioning. St. Josephs Occupational Therapy staff work with people of all ages who, because of illness, or injury, need specialized assistance in learning skills to enable them to lead independent, productive and satisfying lives. Orthopedic and neurological problems are also treated. This includes cognitive/perceptual retraining. Safe-driving evaluations are also preformed; these are designed to determine a persons ability to drive after an injury or illness. The occupational therapy department includes a hand therapy clinic (certified Hand Therapist) that specializes in treating all conditions of the shoulder, elbow, wrist and hand.
Speech Therapy
Speech/language pathologists offer evaluation and treatment specific to adults and children for a variety of speech and language disorders. Commonly treated disorders for adults include aphasia, dysarthria, apraxia, cognitive impairments, swallowing, voice and fluency. Disorders often seen in children, such as language articulation, voice and fluency, are also treated.

St. Josephs inpatient rehabilitation services department is located in the medical center and can be reached at (218) 828-7372. The outpatient rehabilitation services department is located at 2014 South Sixth Street in Brainerd in the lower level at Northern Orthopedics. The off-site location improves the communication and working relationships with the orthopedic physicians, it also provides patients with the convenience of being able to see their physician and therapist in the same building.
