Counseling & Support
St. Josephs Medical Center provides a full spectrum of mental health and chemical dependency services on both an inpatient and outpatient basis. All are located on the fourth floor of the medical center.
The Grace Unit
The Grace Unit provides compassionate, quality inpatient mental health services to adults and adolescents with acute psychiatric problems in a secure setting. Services include testing, psychotherapy and counseling, family counseling and medications. The Grace unit team consists of psychiatrists, nurses, social workers, and mental health counselors. Each disciplines evaluation and expertise are used for each patient during his or her stay. Typically, a patients stay lasts five to seven days, but can be longer or shorter depending on the patients needs. Persons age 15 and older in immediate need of safety are considered for admission by a psychiatrist 24 hours a day. Family members, physicians, clergy or other mental health professionals, may make referrals for admission.
Lakeland Psychiatry Clinic
Outpatient psychiatry services are available at Lakeland Psychiatry Clinic. The psychiatrists and registered nurse practioneers at Lakeland Clinic provide psychotherapy and medication management services to children, adolescents and adults (including geriatrics). The providers at Lakeland Clinic work closely with their patients family doctors, other healthcare providers and family members, when needed, to ensure coordination and support. The Focus Unit
The Focus Unit, the Chemical Dependency Program of St. Josephs Medical Center, has been helping people overcome alcoholism and drug addiction since 1984. FOCUS uses a holistic approach to treatment and is concerned with the total person body, mind, and spirit.
Clients work with their counselor to develop an individualized treatment plan. The plan may include counseling, group sessions, family involvement and attendance at Alcoholics Anonymous meetings.
Treatment is available on both an inpatient and outpatient basis depending on each individuals needs. Inpatient treatment is for those who need hospitalization. Outpatient treatment is available for others.
Generally patients attend meetings three times per week. Both day and evening sessions are available.
Programs for family members or significant others are available during all phases at no additional fee while the patient is in treatment.
Other services that Focus Unit provides are chemical dependency assessments, family programs, elementary school outreach, and educational sessions associated with Project Awareness and DWI offender referrals. Calls for information or referrals can be made to (218) 828-7374.
The Counseling Center
The Counseling Center is a program of Lutheran Social Service (LSS) of Minnesota, located at St. Josephs Medical Center. The LSS staff of The Counseling Center provides outpatient counseling and therapy services, including diagnostic testing, for mental health problems such as anxiety, depression, marital and family relations problems, stress management and problems stemming from abuse for persons of all ages.
Other services available at The Counseling Center include testing and evaluations for ADHD, disabilities and neuropsychological problems. There is a sliding fee scale for those who qualify. Many local employers also use The Counseling Center as their employee assistance program (EAP) provider to help their employees better deal with problems that are affecting work.
